Explainer: Renting OCanFilmFest Films

The Ottawa Canadian Film Festival has selected Vimeo’s On Demand platform to host online screenings. Vimeo was selected because of its reputation among professional filmmakers and its secure integration with payment gateways.

Here’s a link to our Video On Demand page on Vimeo. Films can rented during their rental window and also pre-purchased for your convenience.

Vimeo Video on Demand purchases can only be made via web browser (at the moment). Once purchases are made through your web browser, however, they can be viewed on a computer, TV, smart phone, tablet or a variety of other devices supported by Vimeo.  For more information and updates check out this link.

If you are new to Vimeo, here’s a quick explainer on how to rent films on the platform.

(1) Select the film or compilation of films you would like to rent

Your starting point is the page on ocanfilmfest.ca that is dedicated to the particular screening. On the page, you will see a “Watch” button beside an individual film or compilation of films.

Clicking on the “Watch” button launches the Video on Demand page for the title on Vimeo.

(2) Check out the Video on Demand page for the film / collection and hit the “Rent” button if you would like to rent the film

We hold several screenings a year, some of which are discounted or are free to enjoy. Discount codes for such screenings are published via our social media accounts. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Our Shorts at Home film screenings are examples of such screenings. If you are renting a film for one of these screenings, just enter the discount code during the check out process. Click on “Apply“.

Next, click on the “Rent” button.
